Uber addresses for Qingdao, China

I have to give a hand to Uber /Yōu bù/ because I am hooked. Hailing a cab is sooooo 2012. I can leisurely request People’s Uber from the comfort of my home in Qingdao, choose a private car over a shared one for an extra RMB or so, and watch him on my screen make his way over. Of course there are always Uber hiccups- the 1.5-3x surcharges, the 2 minute ETA that turns into 40 minutes, the drivers who can’t find major roads like Songling lu, etc, etc – but overall, it is well done. I had been able to manage Uber China so far by just confirming my address when they call and by telling my destination when I’m in the car. But now Uber China requires we input the destination beforehand.

How to use Uber in China Qingdao

A little annoying when I (and other foreigners) don’t read characters.  Last week, I clicked on destination Nanjing road in Qingdao. When I got in the car, the Uber driver glared at me with a “Are you for REAL???!” look on his face, pointing violently at his phone, citing I clicked on the city of Nanjing instead. Whooops.

Nanjing lu vs Nanjing city C

So this week during my Chinese lesson with my fantastic Kelvin Laoshi, I opted out of our usual Chinese conversation session to ask him to help me and my fellow Qingdao Expats. We pulled up all the major Qingdao addresses in Uber. Below is our handy–dandy Uber Qingdao, China cheat sheet.

The best way to go about this Uber list is to copy / paste the below into your smart phone notepad. It’s alphabetical, so whenever you need to type in your destination, just copy the Chinese below in the field. Also, I added the address name in pinyin, so you can try your hand at confirming the name with your driver when you jump in the car.

If you need me to add any other Qingdao addresses, please write it in the comments below. I’ll revise this list every month’ish, so please check back for updates.

Happy Discovering!

  1. I was just looking at your Uber addresses for Qingdao, China – Qingdao Expat Survival Guide site and see that your website has the potential to become very popular.

  2. Great post! Someone I know has been wanting me to write about Uber for like…um…over a year, but seemed pointless for those of us stuck in middle-of-nowhere Shandong! This is so useful for expats in the big cities. Well done!
